What are you trying to work out?

Most questions here start the same way — something in the store changed and nobody remembers doing it. Search below, or jump to a topic.

Getting started

How long until entries start appearing?

Seconds. Auditor subscribes to your store's events during installation, and the first change anyone makes afterwards should appear in the live feed almost immediately.

If the feed is still empty after ten minutes and someone has definitely edited something, open Settings → Recorded events and check the area is switched on. If it is, send us your store address.

Why can't I see anything from before I installed the app?

Auditor has no view of your store's past. BigCommerce notifies us of events as they happen and does not provide a history to backfill from, so the record begins at installation. This is the main reason to install early even if you don't need it yet.

Which permissions does Auditor ask for, and why?

Read-only scopes for orders, products, customers, store settings and store information. Read access lets us fetch the current values so an entry can show what a field became, and lets us name the resource rather than just its ID.

Auditor requests no write scopes at all. It cannot change or delete anything in your store, which is also why it can't undo a change for you.

Will it slow my storefront down?

No. Auditor is not installed in your theme and runs no script on your storefront. Your store notifies our servers after an event has already completed, so nothing in the shopper's path waits on us.

Can I give my accountant or agency access without giving them the store?

Yes. Invite them under Settings → People with the Reviewer role. They can search, filter and export the log and nothing else — they cannot change Auditor's settings or see anything else in your BigCommerce admin.

Reading the log

What information is shown in an activity?

Each recorded activity contains the available event information received from BigCommerce. Depending on the event, this can include the event type, timestamp, store information, resource details, and other values provided by the platform.

How are staff activities shown?

Staff activities retrieved from the BigCommerce Staff Action Log are added to the activity records using the timestamp recorded for the staff action.

This allows staff activity to appear alongside other recorded activities in the dashboard.

Can I see who performed a staff action?

When the BigCommerce Staff Action Log provides staff information for an activity, Auditor records the available staff details with the activity.

The information shown depends on what BigCommerce provides in the Staff Action Log.

Why can some activity details be different?

Different BigCommerce events provide different information. Auditor records the details available from the webhook event or Staff Action Log rather than filling in information that BigCommerce does not provide.

How can I find a particular activity?

Use the available dashboard filters and search options to narrow the activity records by the information provided by the app. For staff-specific activity.

When something's missing

I know a change happened but there's no entry. What do I check?

First, check the date and filters currently applied in the dashboard. If the activity is a staff action, check the Staff Log as well.

Staff activity is retrieved from the BigCommerce Staff Action Log based on the configured scraping date and the last recorded scraping point. Activities are processed according to their timestamps and added to the dashboard when they are found.

If the activity still does not appear, verify that the store is connected correctly and that the relevant activity is available in BigCommerce.

Can Auditor show me staff activity from BigCommerce?

Yes. Auditor can access the BigCommerce Staff Action Log through the scraping process and retrieve staff activity based on the configured scraping date and last scraping point.

Retrieved staff activities are displayed in the dashboard and the Staff Log page, with the activity timestamp used to determine where the activity belongs in the log.

Why might a staff activity appear later?

Staff activities are obtained when the staff log scraping process runs. The activity is then processed according to the timestamp recorded in the BigCommerce Staff Action Log.

The scraper keeps track of its last scraping point so that the next run can continue from the appropriate date instead of processing the same earlier entries again.

What happens when new staff activity is detected?

New activity found after the relevant scraping date or last scraping point is processed and added to the activity records. It is then available in both the dashboard Page.

Staff log scraping and notifications

How does Auditor retrieve staff activity?

When staff log details are required, Auditor uses the provided BigCommerce login credentials to access the BigCommerce staff log and retrieve the available activity information.

The credentials are used to access the BigCommerce login page for the scraping process rather than storing or maintaining a separate copy of the BigCommerce staff log data.

How does Auditor know which staff activities to scrape?

Auditor keeps track of the last successful scraping time. During the next scraping process, it checks the Staff Action Log and retrieves activities based on their recorded timestamps after the last scraping point.

A configured date in the app preferences can also be used as the reference point for determining which staff activities should be processed.

What happens when new staff activity is found?

When staff activity is found after the relevant scraping date or timestamp, the activity is processed and added to the activity records. The new staff activity is displayed in the dashboard Page.

Does scraping start from the beginning every time?

No. Auditor uses the last recorded scraping point to determine where to continue. This avoids unnecessarily processing staff log entries that have already been handled.

Billing and plans

Is Auditor free?

Yes. Auditor is currently completely free to use. There are no subscription fees, monthly charges, or additional usage charges.

Will I be charged in the future?

There are currently no charges for using Auditor. If paid plans or billing are introduced in the future, we will provide the applicable pricing, terms, and billing information before any charges apply.

Do I need to enter payment details?

No. Auditor does not currently require payment information because the app is free to use.

Security and data

Does Auditor make me PCI or GDPR compliant?

No. Auditor is a tool for recording and reviewing activity in your BigCommerce store, but using the app does not by itself make your business PCI, GDPR, or otherwise compliant.

You are responsible for determining the compliance requirements that apply to your business and for using the recorded information appropriately.

What data does Auditor access?

Auditor uses the access required to connect your BigCommerce store, receive supported webhook events, and retrieve additional staff activity information when needed.

The app is designed to read and record activity rather than make changes to your store.

How is staff activity checked?

When the staff log is checked, Auditor uses the date configured in your preferences as the reference point. It calculates the last scrape date and retrieves staff activity that occurred after that date based on the activity timestamp.

New staff activity is then recorded and displayed in the dashboard page.

I've found a security problem.

Please contact us privately with details of the security issue so we can review it and respond appropriately.

Service status

Status information is based on the application's current activity and processing state.
